About the National Cybersecurity Workforce Development Program
Educating, training, and employing our nation’s heroes in cybersecurity.

Vision and Mission
The National Cybersecurity Workforce Development Program, CyberSkills2Work, unites the efforts of U.S. colleges and universities to groom and diversify the next generation of cyber professionals. The program is dedicated to producing qualified professionals to bolster America’s cyberdefense. Its mission is to provide professional development training and job-seeking support to transitioning military personnel, veterans, first responders, and others pursuing the cybersecurity field. CyberSkills2Work aims to bridge the gap between cybersecurity workforce employers in critical infrastructure sectors and professionals trained in cyberdefense.

Our Team
A nationwide coalition of educational institutions and partnering employers make up the CyberSkills2Work team. Scholars from colleges and universities, designated as National Centers of Academic Excellence in Cybersecurity (NCAE-C), develop and offer the program’s training curricula. The University of West Florida Center of Cybersecurity oversees the program and coalition efforts. The institutions collaborate with 40+ businesses in the National Cybersecurity Employers Network to prepare learners for work roles in the cybersecurity field. Learners develop skills that align with and support the National Initiative for Cybersecurity Education (NICE) Framework standards for work roles. Through this partnership, the team provides career development support to meet current cybersecurity workforce needs.

Our Funding
The National Security Agency’s NCAE-C program funds CyberSkills2Work. The NSA, an arm of the U.S. Department of Defense, leads government efforts in cybersecurity intelligence, insight, and combat support. The workforce program, with its NCAE-C designation, spearheads the nation’s charge to advance cybersecurity education as a cyberdefense strategy. Thanks to the NCAE-C program, CyberSkills2Work offers high-caliber education and job resources, free of charge, to accepted program participants.

Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR)

Who is ESGR

ESGR, a Department of Defense program, was established in 1972 to promote cooperation and understanding between Reserve Component Service members and their civilian employers and to assist in the resolution of conflicts arising from an employee’s military commitment. ESGR is supported by a network of more than 3,000 volunteers in 54 committees located across all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Guam-CNMI (Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands), Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Volunteers, hailing from small business and industry, government, education, and prior military service bring a vast wealth of experience to assist in serving employers, Service members, and their families. Together with Headquarters ESGR staff and a small cadre of support staff for each State Committee, volunteers work to promote and enhance employer support for military service in the Guard and Reserve.

ESGR has served our country for more than 45 years, fostering a culture in which all employers support and value the employment and military service of members of the National Guard and Reserve in the United States. These citizen warriors could not defend and protect us at home and abroad without the continued promise of meaningful civilian employment for themselves and their families. ESGR has continued to adapt to meet the needs of Reserve Component members, their families, and America’s employers by joining forces with a network of other national, state, and local government and professional trade organizations. Together, We All Serve!

Federally Employed Women (FEW)

What Is FEW?

FEW is a private, non-profit organization founded in 1968 shortly after government issued Executive Order 11375 which added sex-discrimination to the list of prohibited discrimination within the Federal Government. Although E.O. 11375 was an important milestone, several women were concerned that the Civil Service Commission and individual agencies may not put forth the vigorous effort necessary to ensure compliance with E.O. 11375. Although the Federal Women’s Program (FWP) had been established, the early organizers of FEW realized that the government could dismantle FWP, and they wanted to ensure that there would always be an organization dedicated to promoting equality for women and addressing concerns of women in the Federal workforce. Additionally, because FWP is a government function, it is limited in its political scope, and cannot lobby Congress. As a private organization, FEW is not restricted in that area.

As a private organization, FEW works as an advocacy group to improve the status of women employed by the Federal government. This includes contact with Congress to encourage progressive legislation. FEW national officers meet with management officials at all levels of agencies to demonstrate support of the FWP, encourage officials to support the program and to obtain insight on the effectiveness of the FWP at agency and local levels

WHAT FEW IS NOT

FEW is not a labor organization, and therefore does not “represent” employees. However, FEW officers can meet with management officials to discuss matters that fall within their field of interest. Managers and EEO officials may join FEW, and hold local or national office. There is no conflict between being an employee of the FWP and joining FEW. In fact, persons officially charged with FWP responsibilities often work with FEW officers and members to develop goals and objectives for agency programs designed to meet the agency’s needs and to ensure the equality of opportunity for women in the Federal workforce.

ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION

FEW is a three-tiered organization that consist of a National Board, Regions and Chapters. All three tiers work together to fulfill the mission and sets annual goals for FEW including FEW’s four major program areas.

FEW’s membership is open to those who subscribe to the purposes of the organization and carry out its mission. As a grassroots organization, FEW’s vitality and effectiveness are linked to membership. FEW has a specifically defined membership. Members must join, pay dues and support the governing policies and procedures. FEW has a National governing board, a regional governing board and local chapters all around the world. Participation in FEW is not limited to women. Anyone who is concerned about discrimination based on sex and employment opportunities for women in the Federal government is welcome to join FEW.

Grace After Fire

Grace After Fire was first started as The Women’s Heart by Stephanie Moles in 2002, with a focus on increasing access to healthcare services for women Veterans, especially those who struggled with drug and alcohol abuse.

Over time, the leadership of the organization transitioned from Stephanie Moles to retired Air Force Colonel Kim Olson, then to US Navy Veteran Mea Williams.

As Grace After Fire matured, the focus of the organization shifted from the challenges of the woman Veterans to the empowerment of the woman Veteran.  Grace After Fire’s mission became centered on helping the woman Veteran help herself by connecting her with the resources and the tools she needs to be a productive citizen in her community, her work and her home after transitioning from the military.

Ever since 2008, Grace After Fire has been serving the Veteran community by providing community resource navigation services, social events, and annual retreats to women Veterans and their families.  In 2012, Grace After Fire launched the Table Talk Color Me Camo peer-to-peer support group programming designed specifically for women Veterans, and in 2017, Grace After Fire began providing financial basic needs assistance to women Veterans and her family.

Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency

The Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency is the central coordinating agency, providing support, care, advocacy and service to veterans and their families. MVAA was created by Executive Order 2013-2 and began operations on March 20, 2013, the 10th anniversary of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

MVAA is a state government agency and is housed within Michigan Department of Military and Veterans Affairs.

The agency works to identify and break down barriers veterans face in employment, education, health care and quality of life, making Michigan a great place for veterans and their families to call home. Unlike the federal Department of Veterans Affairs, which provides health care, educational, compensation and pension benefits, and more, the MVAA assists veterans and their families by connecting them to their federal resources and benefits, as well as those state benefits they have earned. The agency does this by working with various state departments and agencies, as well as hundreds of community-based veteran programs to create a no-wrong-door access to benefits and services.

Services provided by MVAA include:

The Michigan Veteran Resource Service Center (800-MICH-VET) and MichiganVeterans.com website provide one-stop access for veterans and their families seeking information, resources and staff support.

Michigan Veterans Trust Fund grants help combat-era veterans and their families weather unforeseen, temporary financial emergencies.

MVAA’s Discharge Document Retrieval Service provides veterans copies of DD-214 discharge documents.

MVAA’s Vision:

For Michigan to be the place veterans choose to live, raise a family, work and retire.

Military Spouse Jobs

Home of Military Spouse Owned Business

Our Mission
To expand employment opportunities for military spouses & dependents through one-on-one employment placement assistance, focused on the use of gap skills training and targeted resume and interview assistance, LinkedIn optimization, and connections to employer partners in order to create a smoother transition process.

Who We Are
We are the #1 online resource for military-affiliated job seekers looking to attain a rewarding career and maximize their earnings.

Over the past 19 years, we have placed over 87,000 Veterans, Transitioning Military Members, National Guard and Reserves, and Military Spouses, into industry leading & high-earning careers. Our hiring numbers are verified by a third-party review by Deloitte, via the Call of Duty Endowment. 63,000 of our candidates have taken and completed our training courses.

What We Do & How We Do It
Military Spouse Jobs has honed a very successful, proven method for ensuring our job seekers connect with the career opportunities they deserve.

Our approach has three parts: people, technology and education.

People. Our people — all of whom are highly-educated veterans and military spouses themselves — get to know our job seekers personally. They work to understand a candidate’s military service, the skills they’ve acquired and how that translates to today’s job market. We then provide personal, high-touch, free job placement support, leveraging relationships with hundreds of leading national employers.

Technology. After we get to know our candidates personally, we tap into a world-class technology backbone which enables us to access over three million high-paying job openings, donated through DirectEmployers Association, plus view applicants and track hiring outcomes the same way top employers do. Further, we track our job seekers’ progress after we place them, helping to ensure they succeed. As they progress along and advance in their career – we’re right there with them to help as needed.

Education. For candidates who need extra support, we have developed top-notch training, educational tools, career development resources and mentoring. Our training team — which includes professionals who have developed curricula for prestigious American universities — works closely with each job seeker to guarantee they’re positioned to get the job they deserve.

Our Values
We believe a big part of what sets us apart is our core values, which were deepened through serving our country. Those values include:
Integrity – We don’t accept funding from any branches of the Military or the Government; our singular allegiance is to the job seekers we serve.

Respect – We have the deepest respect for those who are serving, have served, and surround those wo have served; that reverance guides every decision we make.

Commitment – We don’t think it’s enough to just help a veteran or spouse get a job. Nobody goes deeper, or stays involved longer, to help military-affiliated job seekers attain a rewarding career.

Focus – We have never strayed from our founding charter. If it doesn’t help active duty military, veterans or military spouses connect with a high-paying career, we won’t do it.

Efficiency – We are tirelessly devoted to ensuring every penny we spend advances our mission. Deloitte audits show that 96 cents on the dollar goes to that mission.

Purpose Built Families

Purpose Built Families Foundation is a nationally accredited nonprofit delivering preventative and reparative services to overcome foundational barriers to the quest for “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.”

Reparative services are delivered through (1) the agency’s Operation Sacred Trust (“OST”) collaboration disrupting and ending homelessness for thousands of Veterans and (2) Practical Application of Intimate Relationship Skills(“PAIRS”) classes offered nationwide under the “PAIRS Essentials” and “Warrior to Soul Mate” brands helping couples overcome marital instability.

Preventive services are delivered to youth and adults – empowering interpersonal relationship competence through a triad of practical, usable skills to improve communication, conflict resolution, emotional understanding and connection.

The Goal is Bonding
Purpose Built Families Foundation’s approach is built on fundamental skills and concepts underscored throughout the Practical Application of Intimate Relationship Skills program, widely known as PAIRS.
People who master the art of war, medicine, law, science, business, and many other noteworthy endeavors typically draw on those same competencies for different missions in life — because that’s what they know.
Over the past half century, fewer and fewer Americans have grown up in families that provided a model for the lives we seek for ourselves and those we love. How would we know how to nurture a stable, healthy relationship between peers, successfully parent children, or sustain feelings of love through life’s natural challenges and transitions if we’ve never seen that happen?
Rarely are the issues that lead to family fragmentation about core values or differences. More often, decisions that have painful, generational consequences for self and loved ones are rooted in an awkward truth: we don’t know what we don’t know.

Since 1927, the mission of the Texas Veterans Commission has been to advocate for and provide superior service to veterans that will significantly improve the quality of life for all Texas veterans, their families, and survivors.

OUR PHILOSOPHY

The Texas Veterans Commission will aggressively advocate for Texas veterans, their families, and survivors.

The Texas Veterans Commission will provide quality service through eight program areas: Claims Representation and Counseling, Veterans Employment Services, Veterans Education, Veteran Entrepreneur Program, Health Care Advocacy, Veterans Mental Health Program, Women Veterans Program, and the Fund for Veterans’ Assistance.

The Texas Veterans Commission will provide quality service through a dedicated, professional, and well trained workforce.

The Texas Veterans Commission will connect with all veterans across the state, and tailor its service to meet their needs and the needs of their families and survivors.

The Texas Veterans Commission will take the lead in coordinating efforts between our eight programs and with federal, state, and local governmental offices and private organizations that provide services and assistance to veterans.

The Texas Veterans Commission will ensure that Texas veterans maintain the highest quality of life and well-being through its advocacy and dedication to veterans’ services.

We hold ourselves personally and professionally accountable to provide exemplary customer service to veterans, their families, and survivors through our core values.

PROFESSIONALISM

Perform your duties to the highest standard and providing excellent customer service in every program area.

INTEGRITY

Provide fair, honest and objective advocacy in an ethical manner while displaying the highest standard of conduct both on and off duty.

COMPASSION

Consistently demonstrate care, concern and understanding in every encounter with Veterans, family members and stakeholders.

COMMITMENT

Fully dedicated to develop yourself to become the best you can be in carrying out the mission of the TVC.

TEAMWORK

Working together in a positive and productive manner to accomplish the mission and goals of the agency.

The Texas Veterans Commission was created in 1927 as the State Service Office to assist veterans of the Indian wars, Spanish-American War and World War I. Our purpose has always been to act as the state appointed advocate of Texas veterans as they attempt to secure the benefits rightfully earned in exchange for their service in our nation’s armed forces.

We are able to do this through our eight program areas:

  • Claims Representation and Counseling serves veterans, their dependents and survivors, in all matters pertaining to veterans’ disability benefits and rights. It is the designated agency of the state of Texas to represent the State and its veterans before the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).
  • Veterans Education Program approves all programs for Chapter 30, 33, 35, 1606, and 1607 federal educational benefits. Through an approval process, the Texas Veterans Commission ensures that institutions and employers are in compliance with federal guidelines and are qualified to provide the type of training offered.
  • Veterans Employment Services offers employment services to Texas veterans and helps employers find qualified veteran job applicants. The goal of these services is to match veteran job seekers with the best employment opportunities available.
  • The purpose of the Veteran Entrepreneur Program (VEP) is to foster and promote veteran entrepreneurship throughout the state of Texas.  The Texas Veterans Commission, with the help of the Governor’s office and several prominent Legislators, passed Senate Bill 1476 in 2013. This allowed for the funding of a team of experienced business consultants to be available for any veteran in the state of Texas to consult with, free of charge to the veteran.
  • Fund for Veterans’ Assistance is a program that makes grants to eligible charitable organizations, local government agencies, and Veterans Service Organizations (VSOs) that provide direct services to Texas veterans and their families.
  • The Health Care Advocacy Department is a team of highly-trained Texas Veteran Commission staff, strategically positioned across the state to act as liaisons for Texas veterans in addressing issues involving Veterans Administration health care related services.
  • In collaboration with the Department of State Health Services, the Texas Veterans Commission’s Veterans Mental Health Program consists of multiple initiatives focusing on peer support, clinical mental health care access, and community collaboration.
  • The Women Veterans Program serves women veterans by helping them to obtain their benefits and services. We strive to raise awareness of women veteran contributions and services to our country and state, as well as inform and educate women veterans and their resource providers about the benefits and services to women veterans.

Through these program areas, the Texas Veterans Commission provides excellent service so that each veteran receives every benefit that they deserve. As a veteran works with our counselors, the quality of life for that veteran and their family significantly increases.

Today, Texas is leading the country by making sure each veteran is represented and cared for. The people of Texas have sent a clear message that the sacrifices made by veterans and their families are deeply appreciated, and that there is an agency that will stand by them and take care of them: the Texas Veterans Commission.

United Service Organizations (USO) Pathfinder Program

USO Pathfinder® Transition Program

USO COVID-19 Response: In response to the global COVID-19 pandemic, our USO Pathfinder® Transition Program locations are strictly adhering to guidance from military installation commands and abiding by CDC guidance on health safety practices regarding center operations.

We remain steadfast in our mission to support transitioning service members and military spouses. There have been minimal disruptions to one-on-one USO Pathfinder services, as we have shifted Transition Specialist meetings to virtual delivery. Program registration remains open with no disruptions to that process.

The USO Pathfinder® Transition Program extends the USO experience to active duty, Reserve, National Guard and military spouses by offering professional development services throughout the duration of the service member or military spouse’s career, as well as when they transition out of the military and settle into their new communities.

Want to be better prepared for future success before transitioning from the military? Are you a military spouse looking for new opportunities?

CONNECT WITH A USO TRANSITION SPECIALIST

USO Transition Specialists can help develop a personalized Action Plan and help you take full advantage of services and resources that are the best fit for you and your spouse in your new community.

How It Works
The USO Pathfinder Transition Program works with strategic partners to connect service members and military spouses to resources through a holistic approach, focusing on:

Employment
Education – Including leading online learning platforms like Skillsoft, IBM SkillsBuild and Coursera as well as the new 8-week course “Making Your Military Transition a Transformation”
Financial readiness
Mentorship
Increased access to relevant veterans’ benefits in their communities
Through the creation of an individualized action plan, USO Transition Specialists collaborate with individuals to identify their personal and professional goals and build a roadmap to achieving them, while also identifying services and resources that are the best fit for their needs. This program offers support to service members up to 6 months after they have officially left service, providing them with resources well along their journey to civilian life.

Vets - Beyond the Uniform

The VETS Beyond the Uniform program (see Resources below) has been developed by military veterans with the specific goal of helping veterans make a successful journey from the military into the civilian workforce. They also help employers that hire veterans become “Veteran Friendly”. VETS is an acronym representing Veterans Educational Transformation Solutions. As its name suggests, it’s about preparing veterans as they enter the workforce. It’s also about preparing employers for a veteran workforce, especially understanding how to welcome and integrate them.

Veteran Employee Retention Services

VETS – Beyond the Uniform’s mission is to build upon the veteran’s military skills and the skills taught by military transition programs. Their goal is to improve the veteran’s chances for successful long term careers. They provide veterans with one-on-one coaching & mentoring, and access to workshops & training that cover the skills-sets used in the civilian workforce.

VETS – BTU provides veterans transitioning from the military service over 200 free soft-skills training workshops, webinars, and self-paced online training. These programs empower them to successfully integrate and become effective in the business world and civilian workforce. They support each veteran’s transformation with workshops, webinars, group training, self-paced learning, and 1 on 1 mentoring and coaching.

Listen to the conversation I had with the Founders about helping veterans with disabilities thrive (see Resources below).

Employer Support Services

Their mission to support veterans doesn’t end with the veteran. They also support the long term success for employers that hire veterans. VETS – BTU coaches and mentors will work with your team to help you understand them all. They’ll work with you to strengthen your veteran hiring & retention programs as well.

Hiring a veteran brings you a candidate possessing natural leadership, strong work ethic, education & training, and tax credits. There are 6 retention-focused components to the support services:

  • Defined Hiring
  • Successful Integration
  • Mentorship Programs
  • Culture Training
  • Skills Training & Utilization
  • Retention Planning

Vets Who Code

Who We Are

Launched in 2014, #VetsWhoCode is a non- profit dedicated to filling the wide chasm between technical expertise needed and available with America’s best.

Vets Who Code is a reintegration solution for veterans who believe in the principle of “To Teach a Man To Fish” to better prepare early-stage transitioning veterans who are returning to the workforce. Many veterans are un- and under-employed. Some have a deep desire to be independent business owners. Their skill sets are desperately needed to enhance local economies and drive innovation. Vets Who Code serves as a launch pad for our veterans and military spouses.

Our vision is to close the digital talent gap and ease career transition for military veterans, through software development training. We believe that those who serve in uniform can be the digital economy’s most productive and innovative assets. #VetsWhoCode prepares them to enter society with new skills for exciting careers.

Post 9/11 veterans are considered a “vulnerable population.” This is due to the fact that the majority of Veteran Services aren’t designed for us, but for Vets from the Vietnam Era. Employment, education, and what we call “ ground zero issues” are all vastly different from those who came before us

Despite the difference in our generations, the same protocols and policies are being used—and worse than that—they are being used reactively. Our goal is to create a suite of digital applications and services that will empower veterans and guide them through a successful integration back into civilian life. #VetsWhoCode is a reintegration solution for veterans that believes in the principle of “To Teach a Man To Fish” to revitalize early stage transitioning veterans. Many veterans are not homeless, but are un- and under- employed. Some have a deep desire to be independent business owners. Their skill sets are desperately needed to enhance local economies and to drive innovation. #VetsWhoCode is a conversion point and launch pad for these veterans.

What We Do

#VetsWhoCode is a streamlined, highly selective software development training program intent on transitioning military veterans into the vacancies of the tech sector.

#VetsWhoCode was founded by vets who themselves faced the realties of transitioning. We don’t focus our energy on marketing ploys, or on how many people we can funnel through a pipeline. Instead, we choose quality over quantity, and tangible results over lofty ideals.

How We Do This

How we accomplish this mission is through a process of Crawl, Walk, Run where we build upon each lesson in deeper dives so that veterans become better programmers through each iteration. Instructors leading the program are also veterans, programmers, and alumni of the program. There are no excuses, the instructor has been through every success and failure you will experience and has ultimately succeeded on the path of becoming a paid programmer.

We are solution-based and action-oriented. If our students can’t make money with it, then we don’t bother teaching it.

VFW National Home
THE MISSION

“The VFW National Home assists military, veterans, and their families with children, by creating a foundation of services and resources to achieve their personal and family goals in order to move forward in a positive, safe and healthy environment.”

ABOUT US

Born from the belief that America needs to care for the children and families of men and women who sacrificed for our country, the VFW National Home is a place of healing, support and refuge.

It was founded in 1925 as a place where the families left behind by war could remain together, keeping the family circle intact even when their servicemember didn’t come home.

Today’s families face different challenges — reintegration, post-traumatic stress, high unemployment and rehabilitation from battlefield injuries, among others — and the National Home has evolved over our decades-long history to meet those changing needs.

Whole Cyber Human Initiative

A Bit of Background
Whole Cyber Human Initiative is Service-Disabled Veteran Owned Non-profit built on a community to provide, promote, and evaluate free to inexpensive Cybersecurity Education built of the National Institute Cybersecurity Education (NICE) practical skilling.

Founded by Retired Navy Veteran Paul Cummings, Leah McLean, and the founding Board of Advisors, Whole Cyber is a workforce development research organization with a near 300 years combined Industry Experience.

Their mission is to provide an immersive self-paced program in support of Transitioning Service Members, Veterans, Military Families, and First Responders at no cost. While additionally providing Tier based COHORTS to Veteran Owned Businesses first and globally to any company or organization second.

Imagine a world where no predatory bootcamps and academies exist to take a veteran or military spouses of their hard-earned money for accelerator training on how to take a test. Imagine a world where College and Universities have a direct degree pathway matching the 52 roles of CISA NICE Framework. This world can exist with Whole Cyber Human Initiative and your support.

So What is a Whole Cyber Human?

Whole Cyber Human is defined as a person who has built foundational and practical knowledge holistically in the Information Technology and Cybersecurity space. They are immersed into the full spectrum of cyber and empowered with the training to be force multipliers.

They are often considered career pivoters or potential veteran service members who have obtained critical Mid-Senior level soft and hard skills highly required in the job market.

They are our children in school who have already built an effiency in using technology.

They are the key to securing the next 20 years.

The impetus for the creation of the Whole Cyber Human Initiative is driven from the extreme alleged “talent shortage” that spreads across the globe. These in demand jobs are found vacant while human resources and hiring managers claim they cannot find talent. As leaders we can burn this broken process down and kindle the rebirth of the phoenix by reshaping of how to identify, mold, and acquire a new breed of talent throughout the industry.
