In the early 1990’s, a group of leaders from both the public and private sectors became concerned over the growing number of homeless individuals in need of permanent stable housing. These concerns precipitated the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce to form a Homeless Committee with the purpose of finding solutions to a potential growing problem.
The Homeless Committee sought to create a more permanent solution to addressing homelessness and to prevent the repeat cycle of becoming homeless. It decided then to create a nonprofit entity whose mission was to provide both permanent housing and supportive services to help the formerly homeless to successfully reintegrate into society by helping them achieve their full potential.
In 1993, Carrfour, whose name means “Crossroads” in French, was founded by the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce to undertake the development and management of affordable housing, providing residents with a range of supportive services to help achieve self-sufficiency and minimize their chances of being homeless again.
Since 1993, Carrfour Supportive Housing – in collaboration with various nonprofit organizations and for-profit developers – remains the leading provider of supportive housing in Florida, assembling over $200 million of financing, tax credits and subsidies to develop and manage thousands of affordable housing units across Miami-Dade County, serving over 10,000 men, women and children since its founding.

Cohen Military Family Clinics, veterans and their families are eligible for personalized, evidence-based mental health care along with access to comprehensive case management support and referrals to deal with other stresses like unemployment, finances, housing, and legal issues. Helping to connect the Sunshine State’s more than 1.5 million veterans and their families with earned services, benefits and support are the more than 1,100 men and women of the Florida Department of Veterans’ Affairs. They play a major role in the direct infusion of more than $18.4 billion annually for veterans into Florida’s economy through federal compensation, education and pension benefits, U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs’ medical services and military retired pay.
Florida offers unique benefits such as in-state tuition rates for veterans and their families using the Post-9/11 GI Bill®, several layers of property tax exemptions, expanded veterans’ preference, and extensive benefits, licensure and fee waivers for many activities and occupations. We also offer high quality care at our network of seven state veterans’ homes, with two additional homes in development in Port St. Lucie and Orlando.
In 1988, Florida citizens endorsed a constitutional amendment to create the Florida Department of Veterans’ Affairs as a separate agency charged with providing advocacy and representation for Florida’s veterans and to intercede on their behalf with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. Our advocacy increases federal benefits for Florida’s veterans, improves the quality of life for veterans with service-connected disabilities, and provides access to federally funded medical care for eligible veterans.

A TRIBUTE FROM THE FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH
The Florida Department of Health is committed to serving members and veterans of the United States Armed Forces and their families. It is important that we recognize and honor their service to our nation. The Department is proud that over 1.5 million veterans call Florida home, and our continued goal is to make Florida the most veteran-friendly state in the nation.
Military veterans and their families face many challenges. The Department is committed to supporting our military veterans by offering several licensure support services to qualified military families. One service the Department offers is the Florida Veterans Application for Licensure Online Response (VALOR) process, which provides expedited licensing for honorably discharged veterans and their spouses seeking licensure in all health care professions. Veterans and spouses who apply through the VALOR process receive a waiver of most licensing fees.
The Department offers additional armed forces licensure support, including opportunities for physicians to receive a temporary certificate to practice in areas of critical need, renewal exemptions for active duty service members holding a health care license in Florida, and temporary licensure for spouses of active duty service members who possess a valid license in another state, the District of Columbia, or any possession or territory of the United States. Through these programs, we are creating a veteran-friendly regulatory environment that encourages veterans and their spouses to choose Florida for their health care practice after their discharge from active duty.

The Florida Department of Health honors veterans, active duty service members and their families by recognizing the 2018 Florida Veteran Health Heroes and highlighting the department’s veterans support services. Over 1.5 million veterans call Florida home and our continued goal is to help make Florida the most veteran-friendly state in the nation.
The 2018 Florida Veteran Health Heroes publication highlights health care practitioners who have served in the United States Armed Forces and the Commissioned Corps of the U.S. Public Health Service. This year, we recognize John H. Armstrong, MD, FACS; Paul B. Arthur, PhD, OTR/L, OTA; Paula Clark, MSW, LCSW, USAF (Retired); Derrick C. Glymph, DNAP, CRNA, AN, USAR; Stuart I. The department also offers several licensure support services to qualified military families. The majority of the Foundation Directors are retired, military disabled veterans who donate over 40 hours per week of their time to assist and help guide Florida’s veterans through a myriad of issues veterans face today. Whether it’s access to healthcare, education, jobs, VA benefits or the like, our Directors are here to help.
Several Directors are trained Veteran Service Officers who know the extent, the meaning and the application of laws that have been passed by Congress in the interests of veterans and their dependents. Our Directors know the rules and regulations adopted by the Department of Veterans Affairs to clarify and implement those laws.

Why is the Global SOF Foundation necessary?
The world is growing more volatile, unpredictable, and threatening. The conduct of war continues to shift: from large-scale clashes between nations to those characterized by unconventional methods, as well as long-term engagements with and against non-state transnational groups. Countering these globally networked threats requires a global “good-guy” network that can innovate and operate at speeds that traditional governments cannot. The Global SOF Foundation (GSF), a non-profi t organization, is forging this “good-guy” network among the world’s special operations forces (SOF). It brings together military, government, industry, and intellectual leaders from around the world for the purpose of advancing the capability and efficacy of SOF.
What does the Global SOF Foundation do?
The GSF fills a critical gap in the national security discourse: leading an effort to link like-minded public and private entities and to increase understanding of the role that Special Operations can play in addressing global security challenges, especially those emanating from unconventional and transnational sources. The GSF is not a traditional charity but a professional association for SOF dedicated to advocating for SOF globally.

Convenes a diverse set of stakeholders interested in the future of global SOF and security through unique networking opportunities and strategic, thought-provoking forums as well distributed media:
Regular networking events in the U.S. and overseas

Our Mission

Healing Paws for Warriors is a local veteran found / veteran led 501(c)(3) that provides rescue to trained service dogs to combat veterans faced with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and/or Military Sexual Trauma (MST) at “no cost” to the veteran with continued support; reducing the statistic of veteran suicide, increasing self and family health and wellness. A resilient program that represents veterans helping veterans from personal experience and trained service dogs.

Our staff is comprised of a combat medical war veteran, practicing PTSD therapist, professional service dog trainer, a veterinarian, and many other supportive volunteers.

Our dogs come only from local rescues. Our service dog trainer teaches the dogs and the veterans as a team. The dogs are not pets, they are service dogs with the complete protection and rights granted by the American with Disabilities Act.

Our Mission
Heroes United to Heal Foundation Inc. has been created for the purpose of raising awareness regarding Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) in the veteran and first responder communities. Funds raised will be given to other non-profit organizations providing services to veterans and first responders in need of services with the goal of erasing the stigma surrounding PTSD and ending the suicide epidemic in those communities. Funds may also be used to travel for the purpose of fundraising and raising awareness of our mission.

The HOPE Project seeks to help bring hope and healing to wounded warriors, first responders, veterans, their families as well as to children, teens and adults who have been abused using horses, most of which have been rescued. To Eliminate Homelessness among Veterans in Central Florida
When we were first founded in 2008, there were approximately 1,800 homeless veterans living in Brevard County. As of January 2018’s Bi-Annual Point in Time Count, Brevard’s population had been reduced to less than 300, an amazing 88% reduction! While we are very proud of the work we have accomplished, we still have a ways to go before we can say mission complete. According to the US Census Bureau there are 4,400 veterans in Brevard County that are in poverty, and so to reach mission complete we have to get all of the homeless housed while at the same time keep the at-risk in their homes.
What makes us truly unique is the fact that we tackle homelessness directly where it exists…on the streets of our community. We proactively go out to find our clients through street level outreach where they live, provide basic needs to ensure their survival and build rapport, and connect them to any organization that offers a service beneficial to them, rapidly moving from homeless to housed.
While being successful at your primary purpose as an organization is the most important factor, it is just as important to be fiscally responsible. That is why we are so proud of our 91% program service ratio for 2021, as well as our continuous Gold Star rating on GuideStar, the trusted leader in non-profit accountability.

Panhandle Warrior Partnership™ (PWP) is a veteran-focused, community-led initiative to proactively connect with all veterans and ensure access to quality resources and opportunities available in collaboration with the community. The Florida Panhandle is home to one of the largest concentrations of military installations and personnel in the country and while there is a well-knit support structure for active duty and their families; that support structure becomes disjointed and not easily navigated when our service members become veterans. An estimated 100,000 veterans reside in the communities of Northwestern Florida, “The Panhandle”. The larger cities within Northwestern Florida have a variety of support organizations and opportunities, but many veterans, especially in the largely rural areas that span the distance between the Panhandle cities, are not aware of them or the benefits they’ve earned. Veteran organizations are focused on direct services and do not have the capacity to proactively engage the veteran population prior to a need being identified. Additionally, community offerings within the cities can be unaware of what the veterans in the Panhandle are looking for and how to best support them.
PWP is standing by to serve veterans, their families, and caregivers in Northwest Florida. Coordinated assistance with veterans’ benefits and connections to local and national resources are just a call away!

SACC is the only job fair exclusively for service academy alumni. SACC allows candidates to interface with a large number of companies and universities. Companies and universities are encouraged to have in-depth conversations with the candidates to evaluate their skill sets. Semi-private “interview” tables are provided at each venue. By registering in advance, the candidate has the opportunity to have his resume reviewed by the companies prior to SACC and the companies are encouraged to reach out to the candidates and invite them to their booths. It is a win-win for all involved!

ABOUT US
The Fire Watch is Florida’s fight to end veteran suicide. We are uniting our War Fighters and allies to swiftly activate local assets, stand watch, and build a life-saving network. To date, no city, county, or state has systemically reduced its veteran suicide rate. This effort is the first of its kind in the country.
THE PROBLEM
Veteran suicide is a growing crisis. At least 20 U.S. veterans are taking their lives every day. To date, solutions to prevent suicide have been inadequate at best. In particular, federal solutions have had little to no effect on the crisis on the ground here in Florida. Given that Florida is home to over 1.5 million veterans, the need and the challenge are evident.
THE ORIGIN
Based upon the success and experience of Florida’s non-profit K9s For Warriors, the nation’s largest provider of service dogs to disabled American veterans in preventing veteran suicide, The Fire Watch recreates on a regional scale the support system and inter-connectivity required to keep our veterans safe from taking their own lives.
THE PLAN
The Fire Watch combats veteran suicide in two ways. First, we coordinate local resources with our many veteran service partners to assist veterans in crisis. Second, we are mobilizing a Watch Stander network of 10,000+ community members to learn to identify the risk signs of veterans in crisis and to direct those veterans to the help and resources they need. Our goal is to ensure our War Fighters never slip into crisis at all.

The Veterans Business Outreach Center Region IV, representing the State of Florida, has twice been honored as the VBOC of the year, in 2014 and 2018.
Under the leadership of Brenton Peacock, the staff strives to continuously meet the needs of its clients. We consider it an honor and a privilege to serve you and provide the necessary skills to start or grow your own business.
Following a 1999 law to promote veteran participation in the entrepreneurship and small business field, the Small Business Association created and established a number of VBOCs. The Florida program, which is one of twenty-two in the country, finds that success is reflected in many start-ups throughout the State. Our clients have cumulatively received millions of dollars in contract awards, the bulk of which is through federal government contracting and loans. We help strengthen our clients’ business by providing education and resources, with the understanding that military service has set-up veterans to be fine entrepreneurs.
Consulting services are free, and we offer one-on-one communications with clients. Veterans Florida is a non-profit created by the State of Florida to help military veterans transition to civilian life and to promote Florida’s status as the nation’s most veteran-friendly state. Veterans Florida provides powerful tools for veterans to take advantage of the benefits of living and working in the Sunshine State.
Through our Career Services Program, we connect veterans with employers who are eager to hire veterans for jobs that put their particular military skills to use.
