JOB DESCRIPTION
Edgewater Technical Associates, LLC is a multi-disciplinary engineering, construction, operations, and environmental services firm dedicated to providing responsive and quality staffing and outstanding services throughout Department of Energy (DOE), National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA), Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), Canadian Commercial Nuclear Industry, and related technology industries. Due to continued growth, our Nuclear Safety Services group is seeking mid-career level engineers to support the Savannah River Mission Completion (SRMC) Nuclear & Criticality Safety Engineering organization in the development, review, and implementation of nuclear safety documentation for various facilities at the Savannah River Site (SRS). In this role, you will have the opportunity to develop nuclear safety analysis work products in supporting the licensing, design basis, and operability of nuclear facilities and processes including radiological, chemical, and environmental assessments of new and existing facilities, structures, systems, and components.
RESPONSIBILITIES (including but not limited to)
- Providing technical assistance in the development of documented safety analyses (DSAs), technical safety requirements (TSRs), and related technical support documentation in accordance with regulatory, industry, and company quality standards.
- Leading and/or participating in hazard identification, hazard screening, and hazard evaluation processes.
- Preparing calculations, evaluations, reviewing engineering change packages and safety basis documents associated with radiological and chemical accident and consequence analysis processes.
- Developing functional requirements and performance criteria for structures, systems, and components and establishing safety requirements for assigned systems.
- Ensuring that the developed nuclear safety documentation complies with requirements and that applicable hazard controls are implemented in procedures.
- Identifying and tailoring applicable functional, operational, and regulatory compliance-based requirements for missions, projects, and activities.
- Supporting safety basis implementation and readiness activities at SRS facilities.
- Reviewing processes, systems, and activities in SRS facilities to ensure associated safety related. equipment is designed to protect the health and safety of workers, public, and the environment.
- Preparing and/or supporting Unreviewed Safety Question (USQ) evaluations.
- Evaluating the interrelationship of system safety requirements and other aspects of concept design and developments to ensure the most cost-effective program.
- Working with a team of exceptional professionals to analyze and solve technical nuclear safety issues.
EDUCATION
Bachelor's degree in nuclear, engineering, math or science discipline with 5 years’ nuclear/criticality safety experience in DOE, NNSA, Department of Defense (DOD) or NRC industry, OR
High school diploma and completion of the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program with 3 to 5 years’ nuclear/criticality safety experience in DOE, NNSA, DOD, or NRC industry.
QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE
- US Citizenship
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE “Q” security clearance.
- Demonstrated DOE, NNSA, DOD, or NRC experience.
- Possess strong written, verbal communication, and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated previous experience in the use and implementation of relevant DOE rules, orders, standards, guides, and handbooks including 10 CFR 830, Nuclear Safety Management, DOE O 420.1, Facility Safety, DOE-STD-3009-94 & 2014, Preparation of Nonreactor Nuclear Facility Documented Safety Analysis, DOE-STD-1189-2008 & 2016, Integration of Safety into the Design Process, DOE-HDBK-3010-94, Airborne Release Fractions/Rates and Respirable Fractions for Nonreactor Nuclear Facilities; or similar comparable experience in the DOD or NRC related to preparation and review of nuclear safety documentation (e.g., 10 CFR Part 70, Domestic Licensing of Special Nuclear Material, NUREG/CR-6410, Nuclear Fuel Cycle Facility Accident Analysis Handbook, NUREG-0800, Standard Review Plan for the Review of SafetyAnalysis Reports for Nuclear Power Plants). (Required)
- Demonstrated previous experience performing hazard identification, hazard analysis, hazard evaluation, and hazard control selection. (Preferred)
- Demonstrated previous experience in developing, reviewing, and maintaining nuclear safety documentation (Preferred).
- Demonstrated experience in performing USQ evaluations (or similar process for nuclear power plants e.g., 10 CFR 50.59 evaluations) (Preferred)
- Demonstrated personal accountability for facility/project schedules, deadlines, budgets, and the safe performance of work; and proficiency in performing nuclear safety program assessments. (Preferred)
