Department Overview

Reporting to the Director of Clinical Data and Analytics, this leadership position is responsible for the delivery of clinical analytical tools and reporting services to OHSU Health’s Ambulatory and Allied health professional  services.  The principle duty of this position will be to lead the work of a diverse team of analysts and report developers to create and maintain a cohesive set of data and reporting assets in alignment with OHSU’s growth as a Health System.  Successful execution of this role requires skillful collaboration and problem solving with clinical, operational, and technical partners.  In addition to operational duties, this positon willl work with directors and managers to develop and plan strategic intiatives that will shape the future landscape of healthcare data and analytics at OHSU Health.

Function/Duties of Position

Leadership and Management:

  • Manages day to day operations of the Clinical Analytics team in the BIAA. Distributes group work across employees to leverage individual strengths and balance employee workload.
  • Manages, coaches, mentors and develops employees into a productive, results-orientated team with a focus on customer service.
  • Fosters a highly collaborative environment with all who interact with the Clinical Analytics team, especially strategic business partners and reporting resources outside the of ITG. This includes the promotion of a positive environment and constructive conflict resolution.
  • Schedules and conducts regular staff meetings to communicate the goals and objectives of team projects.
  • Creates a positive team spirit and promotes a culture of accountability.
  • Contribute to the development of short and long term goals and objectives that support the mission of delivering data as a strategic asset.
  • Evaluates effectiveness of team goals and adjusts where necessary to meet changes or new requirements.
  • Assumes accountability for the quality of the work product of the all direct reports.
  • Staffing technical, infrastructure, and planning committees that define and manage BI tools, methods and strategy.
  • Educate internal and external customers regarding reporting capabilities and best practices.

Process & Operations

  • Demonstrates substantial knowledge of the healthcare service lines, workflows, and reporting infrastructure.
  • Uses project management techniques to track projects from inception to completion. Ensuring that all work assigned and performed by the group has been prioritized appropriately by the proper approving body.
  • Complete data requests as needed.
  • Evaluate new requests and project for impact and urgency.
  • Report on status of key projects and operational metrics to BIAA leadership.
  • Identify opportunities to proactively implement standard reporting services that meet a common demand across the clinical enterprise.
  • Promote best practices that lead to the development of a cohesive portfolio of products and services.
  • Participate in workgroups, committees and taskforce teams as the subject matter expert for healthcare data and reporting services.
  • Identify and understand stakeholder needs for data and reporting services, and work with BIAA leadership to synthesize these needs into a roadmap aimed at delivering the BI and Analytics capabilities required for OHSU Health to meet its strategic goals.

  • Responsible for the Recruitment, Hiring, and Onboarding of new employees.

Required Qualifications

Education:

 

Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field and six years work related experience in the information technology field OR

Advanced degree (master’s or above) would substitute for four years work related experience in the information technology field

 

Experience:

 

  • 4 years progress leadership responsibilities or roles.
  • 6 years working in a Business Intelligence field.
  • Experience using project management principles for organizing and tracking work.
  • Mentorship and/or team development experience
  • Experience managing work across functional teams.
  • Experience prioritizing work across services lines.
  • Experience developing and implementing structured work processes.
  • Experience applying structured methodology for problem solving.
  • Experience constructing proposals for senior leadership.

 

 

Job Related Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (Competencies):

 

  • Positive attitude and enthusiasm for improving health and wellbeing through data.
  • Current knowledge of SQL development best practices and report development standards.
  • Familiar with relational and dimensional database concepts.
  • Working knowledge of ITIL methodology.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate with customers at all professional levels.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities.

 

Registrations, Certifications and/or Licenses:

  • Epic Clinical Application or Cogito Certification within first year of employment
  • New Manager Leadership Essentials completed within first year of employment

Additional Details

Please note: Effective Oct. 18, 2021, all OHSU employees are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 unless they have an approved medical or religious exception.
