The American Legion offers a number of scholarships and other resources to assist young people in their pursuit of higher education. There are opportunities for everyone, including kin of wartime veterans and participants in Legion programs
One $2,000 scholarship is awarded annually per Auxiliary geographic division. Applicant may be pursuing training in a certified, trade, professional, or technical program, or a two-year or four-year degree program.
Candidates for this award shall be daughters, sons, grandsons, granddaughters, great-granddaughters, great-grandsons of veterans who served in the Armed Forces during eligibility dates for membership in The American Legion.
The Spirit of Youth Scholarship Fund is an umbrella that supports three separate scholarship opportunities for participants in American Legion Auxiliary programs. One is for American Legion Auxiliary Junior members, another for the Honorary National Junior Division Vice Presidents, and one is for participants in the American Legion Auxiliary Girls Nation program.
You must be a surviving child of a U.S. Military Service Member who lost their life on or after October 7, 2001, during the course of their active duty responsibilities while serving their country.
AFBA has made available to members the financial benefits of the General & Mrs. Charles C. Blanton AFBA Family Survivor College Scholarship that provides an educational scholarship to candidates towards an undergraduate degree at an accredited college of up to $10,000 per family per year for a maximum benefit of $40,000 for college tuition and fees. The scholarship is awarded to the surviving spouse or children of an insured AFBA member who dies in a combat zone as a result of combat actions, or whose life was lost as a result of acts of foreign or domestic terrorism.
For college-level education of members of the AAAA, and the spouses, unmarried siblings, unmarried children and unmarried grandchildren of current and deceased AAAA members
One-year financial scholarships awarded on the basis of academic record and participation in school and community activities
For qualified family members of Chief Petty Officers including spouses and children (natural born, adopted or stepchildren).

The Children of Fallen Soldiers Relief Fund was founded in October 2003 to help support surviving U.S. Military children who have lost a parent in the Afghanistan or Iraq wars by providing them with College Grants. Our program has been expanded to include spouses of our fallen as well as those whose parent or spouse has suffered a severe disability as a result of their efforts in either war and includes many disabled veterans some who may are no longer be receiving VA educational benefits.
This scholarship benefits dependent children of CG members (enlisted and commissioned officers) who lost their life in CG land, air, or sea operations. An eligible dependent may apply for this scholarship any time during the year.
Professional Tutors of America is a proud supporter of the families of our Fallen Soldiers and their goal is to provide free personalized tutoring services to every child (or surviving spouse) whose mother or father lost their lives serving in Iraq and Afghanistan wars. Our tutors have been very effective in mentoring these children and keeping them focused on their education and future goals.
No Greater Sacrifice (NGS) is dedicated to the children of our nation’s fallen and wounded Service members (post 9/11/01) by delivering scholarships and resources to improve their quality of life through the pursuit of higher education. NGS defines “higher education” as advanced learning through a bachelor’s degree or associate’s degree from an approved institution or certificate from a trade school.
Our Military Kids offers cost coverage/free Grants for extra-curricular sports programs like soccer, swimming lessons, fine arts, and tutoring. In support of Gold Star Kids. Children ages 5-18 of fallen military personnel KIA in 2010-present, while serving overseas in support of OEF/OND/OIF or on those killed in CONUS while/during a training mission, while on mobilization orders.
The SOWF provides full scholarship grants and educational and family counseling to the surviving children of special operations personnel who die in operational or training missions and immediate financial assistance to severely wounded, special operations personnel and their families.
The “Heroes’ Legacy Scholarships” program honors not only those who have fallen in battle, but all who have died or have become disabled through their active military service since September 11, 2001. The program is open to their dependent unmarried children under age 23. A disability is defined as one that results in the service member being eligible for, and receiving, Traumatic Servicemembers’ Group Life Insurance (TSGLI) or a permanent and total disability compensation rating of 100%.
