Department Overview
The Senior Trainer position supports the educational and staff development needs of OHSU Healthcare by providing training and support on the use of our Integrated Health Record, Epic. This requires a coordinated and collaborative approach with multiple departments, including our Information Technology Group (ITG), Clinical Informatics Department (CID), Patient Care Services Division (PCSD), Professional Services, Pharmacy and Laboratory, among others. In particular, the person in this position works closely with the Medical Directors, Nursing Informatics, Professional Practice Leaders, other Epic Trainers and OHSU partners/ affiliates to ensure that staff use EpicCare to maximize the delivery of quality patient care.
Function/Duties of Position
Training Development and Delivery
- Maintains specialized knowledge regarding EpicCare end-user functionality and
- Designs curriculum, lesson plans, presentation materials, on-line modules and handouts.
- Incorporates knowledge of Adult Learning Theory into curriculum design.
- Ensures that training materials meet instructional objectives and quality standards.
- Collaborates with other team members to ensure the build of functionality and sample patients in the Training
- Plans scheduling, timing and frequency of classes in collaboration with Director of Organizational Effectiveness, Clinical Informatics, Department Directors, Managers and Professional Practice
- Facilitates class registrations and arranges classroom space in collaboration with the Organizational Effectiveness Administrative Assistant.
- Conducts “train-the-trainer” sessions to ensure consistency across instructor-led
- Develops and administers end-user assessments, and analyzes the results to continually improve
- Documents training completion in Compass to facilitate user access to EpicCare.
- Contributes relevant EpicCare education and training materials to the Epic @OHSU web site.
Customer Service
- Responds to end-user inquiries, generated by Epic Support Desk referrals or by direct customer contact. Communicates resolution in approved
- Provides individualized support to users upon
- Provides site-support during implementation as needed.
Testing
- Assists in testing the EpicCare training environment build and configuration when new functionality is added or the system is upgraded.
- Assists in testing new workflows that result from the addition of new functionality or unit/department optimization.
Required Qualifications
Education/Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent experience; AND
3 years experience providing training, course design and web development including online courses, instructional design, technical writing, and understanding of theories, tools and methods of adult learning; OR
An equivalent combination of education and experience; AND
Possesses strong presentation skills or public speaking experience to communicate information and ideas clearly verbally and in writing based on the needs of the audience.

Additional Details
