US Cyber Insurance Underwriting | Internship, FT | 2 Months Paid Veteran Internship OR 6 months Skillbridge Intern In-person schedule, with potential to transition to hybrid | Chicago, IL 60606

Role purpose

To appropriately underwrite risks in accordance with the business plan and within delegated underwriting authority.

What is Underwriting? The process of analyzing an organization for the purpose of determining eligibility and terms and conditions in the course of placing an insurance policy.

What is Cyber Liability Insurance? A general term for insurance products principally designed to transfer cybersecurity and privacy risk from the purchaser.

Key Accountabilities

  • Supports the implementation of the underwriting strategy to enable delivery of overall business targets.
  • Adheres to underwriting standards, instructions and good practice to minimize risk and maximize efficiency.
  • Performs underwriting activities in accordance with all legal and regulatory requirements to ensure obligations are met.
  • Understands and complies with any reinsurance requirements to minimize risk and to deliver business plan objectives.
  • Ensures that underwriting files are maintained in a logical and accessible manner and/or other underwriting issues are clearly documented at all times.
  • Establishes, strengthens and develops relationships with stakeholders including customers, brokers, business partners and colleagues to support their needs, maximize influence, and achieve business objectives.
  • Responds to internal and external stakeholder requests in accordance with service standards.
  • Participates in the review and analysis of the portfolio to identify progress toward business objectives.
  • Supports the senior underwriting team in the production of management information reports, to enable effective monitoring of underwriting activity.
  • Understands and contributes to the aggregate management and peer review processes to encourage and develop excellence.
  • Maintains expertise and team knowledge through identifying appropriate learning and development activities.

Skill & Experience

2+ years of analytical related experience, working with structured and unstructured data.

Working in a collaborative team environment to solve complex problems

Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to multi-task and prioritize.

Experience of using new technologies and applications to enhance processes, outcomes, and ways of working.

CIPP/US (or equivalent) qualified or progress towards completion of alternative relevant insurance/security qualifications.

Experience in cyber command, intelligence or special forces preferred.
